Nanotechnology Amendment Act of 2009 introduced into the Senate

The Communications, Technology, and the Internet Subcommittee of the Senate Commerce, Science, and Transportation Committee, chaired by Senator John Kerry (D-MA) will consider the National Nanotechnology Initiative Amendments Act of 2009 (H.R. 554).

Sean Murdock, Executive Chairman of the NanoBusiness Alliance applauded Senator Kerry for introducing the billing into the Senate (on July 21st) and commented, "The 21st Century Nanotechnology Research and Development Act was landmark legislation in 2003, and this new bill is vital to ensuring America's leadership in the global economy."

This bill before the Senate includes language that supports green nanotechnology research, thanks in large part to advocacy efforts of SNNI's director, Jim Hutchison. In several trips to Capitol Hill, including a presentation before the Congressional Nanotechnology Caucus in 2007, Dr. Hutchison urged policymakers to fund research to develop design rules that guide the production of inherently safer, greener nanomaterials.
